Assistant Professor, Research
The Department of Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis, invites applications for an immediately available Assistant Professor position on the Research track.
The Klein lab utilizes both autoimmune and infectious models of encephalitis, using genetic, molecular, immunologic and virologic approaches to determine how and why certain pathogens target the CNS and the innate and adaptive immune responses that clear infections and repair CNS injury. We are seeking an outstanding applicant to join at the level of Research Assistant Professor. The applicant is expected to have a PhD or MD/PhD in a relevant area, including, but not limited to immunology, neuroscience and microbiology. Knowledge of mouse genetics and immunobiology is essential, and understanding of host-pathogen interactions is a plus. Potential research projects include defining molecular mechanisms involved in innate immune modulation of blood-brain barrier (BBB) function that contribute to the CNS entry of viruses and leukocytes, understanding chemokine mediated neuroprotection and repair and identifying new therapeutic targets to treat neuroinflammatory diseases.
Candidates must have a PhD, and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience.
Requires experience, accomplishment, and demonstrated productivity, through publications. Individuals must be highly motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, possess initiative and excellent project management abilities, excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, and a desire to learn, lead, and expand their interests and expertise. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
