NBM-Division of Newborn Medicine Hospitalist Faculty Appointment (Clinical Track) #1010201
The Division of Newborn Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM)/St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) seeks Board certified/Board eligible pediatricians at the Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor levels to join the Newborn Services Team for appointment as Newborn Hospitalists on the Clinician track. Our Team consists of Newborn Faculty, Neonatal and Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Pediatric Residents, Neonatal Nurses, Pediatric Consultants, and Newborn Ancillary providers (lactation consultants, social workers, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and pharmacists). The Team provides care for high risk and normal newborn infants in the St. Louis Children’s Hospital level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (147 beds, ~1,500 admissions/year) and in the delivery service and normal nursery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (~4,000 births/year, 60% high risk, attached to the NICU by a bridge). The major criteria for appointment and promotion on the Clinician track are evidence of outstanding clinical skills and effective teaching skills across multiple learner domains.
Successful Newborn Hospitalist faculty candidates will be committed, effective teachers, outstanding clinicians, and skilled team builders. They will join a faculty of 28 Board certified/Board eligible neonatologists who provide clinical care, perform clinical and basic science research, and mentor 18 Neonatal-Perinatal fellows. The activities of the Division are diverse and include cutting-edge, multidisciplinary, family-centered patient care in a 147-bed, high-acuity, high-complexity NICU, clinical coverage at regional nurseries, active collaboration with the faculty in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics Divisions in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatal and Maternal Transport Teams, an active Fetal Care Center, a high volume Infant Follow Up Clinic, and provision of all forms of level IV neonatal intensive care for infants with diverse critical illnesses including surgical, genetic, and cardiac problems. The Division participates in the education of pediatric residents, fellows from other pediatric surgical and medical subspecialties, and Neonatal-Perinatal fellows in ACGME-accredited training programs, as well as medical students from Washington University School of Medicine and other medical schools. Extensive opportunities exist for collaborations in education, quality and safety, and simulation with faculty members in the Division, the Department of Pediatrics, at the School of Medicine, and in other Departments/Schools at Washington University.
