Assistant/Associate Director of Clinical Genomics
The Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) in St Louis is inviting applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Director of the Clinical Genomics laboratory in the division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine. Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will participate in an active diagnostic laboratory service, including cytogenetic and molecular assay review and interpretation. Our full service cytogenetics facility offers prenatal testing, constitutional blood and tissue studies, bone marrow and solid tumor cytogenetics, and FISH. Molecular testing includes next-generation sequencing (NGS) in the setting of tumor somatic profiling, and constitutional disease panels, as well as chromosomal microarray (CMA) studies. This individual will work closely with supervisory and administrative staff in the laboratory as well as associated faculty members. An academic appointment in a rank commensurate with experience will apply for this clinical (non-tenure) track position.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: • Review and interpretation of cytogenetic and molecular studies • Consultation with referring physicians/clinical staff • Guidance for assay development/validation • Participation in laboratory QC/QA activities • Involvement in laboratory protocol review/revision • Participation in regulatory activities as related to CAP/CLIA • Education of fellows, residents, medical students and staff • Critical Skills/Expertise • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Expertise in human genetics, molecular genetics and cytogenetic principles • Strong analytic skills • Knowledge of CAP/CLIA regulations • Strong interpersonal skills Education and Experience: Board certification or active candidate status for Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). The candidate must have excellent administrative skills, an interest in participating in strong teaching programs as well as an interest in participating in clinical or translational research. Job Location/Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional laboratory exposure. The Lab: Our laboratory is full service state-of-the art facility with experienced technologists and managerial staff. The lab is equipped with modern imaging stations, a laboratory information system, and automated metaphase scanner.
